How It All Began
A place crafted for connection, community, and of course, delicious coffee is Wayne & Freda. Located in Penticton, this local favourite was created from a wonderful story of connection and friendship. In 2003, Ryan and Jen, who eventually became owners of Wayne and Freda, met and began dating. They later discovered that Ryan’s grandfather and Jen’s grandmother were residing in the same care home in the Okanagan. After a seating arrangement change, Wayne and Freda struck up a conversation about their shared grandchildren, leading to a newfound friendship. Wayne and Freda inspired the creation of the café, a place that is well-known to many in the valley.
Coffee & Food
A coffee from Wayne & Freda is undoubtedly the best way to start your morning. Espressos, Cortados, Mochas, and every specialty drink in between – each coffee drink is made with high quality Guatemalen or Etheopiaon beans for the best possible taste. Aside from coffee, the café also offers stone ground tea and delicious smoothies for a healthy kickstart to your day.
As one of the best breakfast places in Penticton, Wayne & Freda offers a delicious variety of hearty dishes. The breakfast/brunch menu includes breakfast sandwiches, loaded toast, and house-made granola. For lunch, the menu expands to include bowls, soup, and more sandwiches, all made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. There are few things better than a healthy meal paired with your favourite coffee, so come try it for yourself!
Café Atmosphere
The ambiance here is bright, positive, and energetic. The large windows allow ample amounts of sunlight in, making it a perfect place to spend your morning. With a vision to create an inviting and playful atmosphere, owners Ryan and Jen drew inspiration from their travels and passion for hospitality. The aim was to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment that would make guests feel at home, which is certainly the case.
At the heart of the space is a 20ft long coffee bar, that was generously loaned to the café from the Summerland museum. This historical piece was the first item acquired for the shop and served as the focal point and inspiration for the rest of the design.
Whether you’re here to do work, socialize, or sip coffee solo, you’re sure to enjoy the welcoming vibe, tasty food, and of course great coffee.
