A Bavarian Experience

Gasthaus on the Lake is one of the Okanagan’s novelty restaurants. Located along the stunning Beach Avenue in Peachland, this Bavarian style pub offers an escape to a German dining experience. Whether you’re enjoying the shaded patio with lakefront views or staying cozy by the fire inside, you’re sure to have a memorable experience.

Since opening in 1991, this pub has become a landmark for travelers in Peachland. There’s a good chance that when you ask a local where to dine in the area, Gasthaus will be on the list. The atmosphere created by the medieval dining room is like no other. Feast on your favourite meat dish paired with a German Pilsner for the most authentic experience.

Gasthaus can attribute its long term success to three main factors: professional staff, consistency, and a delicious Bavarian menu. A unique dining experience is important here – the level of service often goes above and beyond your average pub. From the production, preparation, and presentation of the dishes, the level of care that goes into each plate is obvious. Don’t just take it from us though, read the thousands of reviews that rave about this place.

Oh ya, did we mention that you can boat to this restaurant? WIth its central location and close proximity to temporary moorage, it’s one of few restaurants in the Okanagan that is accessible by boat from neighboring towns and cities!

Menu

Open for both lunch and dinner, both menus offer an impressively wide selection of food. Changing with the seasons, the menus feature a combination of North American and Bavarian food. It’s not very often you’ll see a Crispy Chicken Burger and Jagerschnitzel on the same menu, but that’s what makes this place so special. Locally sourced ingredients allow for an Okanagan twist on traditional German meals.

Our favourite lunch is the Falscher Hase, a homemade German meatloaf made with a combination of beef, bison & pork, topped with caramelized onions and a sunny side egg. On the side? Fries and gravy of course.

For dinner, we recommend keeping it simple and authentic. The Big Game Bratwurst will leave you satisfied, and to be honest very full! The Bratwurst is filled with a mix of bison, venison and elk filling. Fresh Sauerkraut, Spätzle, and Gravy complement the meal and add a variety of delicious flavours. You’ll notice a common theme with the food here, portions are large, flavours are bursting, and there is no shortage of high quality meat!

Events

Gasthaus plays host to a variety of events throughout the year. Medieval Feasts, live jazz nights, Oktoberfest, and holiday celebrations are just a few of the many that take place. The Medieval Feasts in particular are something we highly recommend experiencing. Upon arrival, you’ll be prompted to dress up in authentic medieval attire. The beer begins to flow, fresh soups and breads start your meal, and then a large steel frying pan is brought out with a variety of meats and vegetables to feast on. The experience is unlike any other. Available for private bookings and public events, you won’t be able to find this anywhere else in the Okanagan. Call the restaurant or email info@gausthaus.ca for booking inquiries.
