How It All Began

As local as it gets, Summerland Heritage Cider helps set the standard of quality cider-making in the Okanagan. The story of how it came to be is one that goes back many years to three orchardist, apple growing friends. Each year after harvest season, the trio realized that a considerable amount of leftover apples were still hanging from the trees. With no use for them, the thought of turning these unused apples into cider was brilliantly thought of. Although the first few batches from an old recipe weren’t their greatest masterpiece, the production process and apple quality has vastly improved into what has now become some of the best tasting cider in the Okanagan. Fast forward to 2015, the cidery underwent new ownership from a younger generation, carrying the tradition along. Today, Summerland Heritage Cider is one of the most well known cideries in the valley – one we highly recommend checking out!

The Cider

At Summerland Heritage, a passion for cider runs deep. There is a strong focus on achieving nothing short of excellence in every bottle, something which they have successfully done. What sets the cider here apart from others is their use of European cider apple varieties that are grown and harvested in their very own orchards. While not meant for eating, these apples contain an impressive amount of tannins that allow for the perfect golden hue in each glass. The in-depth fermentation process allows for a rich flavour, complex profile, and overall a delicious tasting cider! There’s a variety of flavours to choose from, but be sure to try the Tuesday’s Original – a modern twist on a classic English cider. Other noteworthy flavours include The Porter’s Dry, Blackberry Mint, and Raspberry.
