About the Beach
Nestled along the scenic downtown boardwalk behind the Grand Okanagan Resort sits Tugboat Bay. Featuring a sandy beach, rolling grassy hills, a large swimming area, and a variety of amenities, this is one of the best spots to be on a hot summer day. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick dip or setting up a beach camp for the day, the well maintained facilities, easy access, and crystal clear water make it an ideal place to do so.
Amenities
Aside from the stunning views and soft sand, Tugboat offers many well kept amenities like washroom facilities, benches, shade trees on the grass, and showers. The large sandy area allows for beach games and relaxing, and the soft, sand bottom swimming area is perfect for cooling off. Okanagan Beach Rentals has a kiosk on the north end of the beach, giving you easy access to paddleboards, kayaks, pedal boats, and more!
We’d also recommend checking out the Rotary Marsh Bird Sanctuary that sits just north of the beach, as well as the Island Stage that often hosts live music during summer evenings.
Although on-leash dogs are permitted on the boardwalk and walkways that run parallel with the beach, dogs are not allowed on the beach itself.
Location + Parking
Tugboat is centrally located to many restaurants, cafes, and shops. Sitting along the north end of the infamous downtown Kelowna boardwalk, you’ll notice many walkers and bikers strolling along and stopping here to take in the beauty.
On the busier days, parking can be a tad tricky. There are two main parking areas; the first is a large parking lot at 1200 Water Street directly across from Prospera Place, and the second is parallel parking along Sunset Drive. If you have a lot of equipment to haul to the beach, we’d recommend bringing a wagon as the walk from your car is about 5 minutes.
