As locals to the Okanagan, Summerland Sweets is a cherished part of our heritage. Founded by the visionary Ted Atkinson in 1962, the journey began at the Federal Agricultural Research Station in Summerland, where he honed his expertise and passion for quality as the head of the food processing lab. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science from Oregon State University, Ted’s innovation led to the creation of the first product: fruit jelly candies. What started as a humble effort to support the local Rotary Club from a pickers’ cabin in his orchard blossomed into the iconic Summerland Sweets we know and love today. Ted’s unwavering commitment to using only the finest tree and vine-ripened fruits, picked at peak maturity and processed swiftly to preserve their flavour and colour, set the foundation for a legacy of excellence that continues under his family’s stewardship.
Our Delicious Offerings
When you visit Summerland Sweets, you’re treated to more than just a taste of the Okanagan; you’re indulging in a full range of fruit-based delights that capture the essence of our sun-kissed region. From signature pancake syrups to gourmet jams, from nut brittles to an assortment of beautifully packaged gift options, every product is a testament to superior quality. Under the same roof is Sleeping Giant Fruit Winery, offering a selection of exquisite fruit wines that perfectly complement the suite of sweets.
Though the largest selection of products can be found in the Country Store in Summerland, you can also find a limited selection of their jams and syrups throughout BC and Alberta at various grocery stores and small businesses!
